FUTURE TENSES (WILL AND BE GOING TO)

Future Tense Türkçe’deki gelecek zamanın ifadesidir. Türkçe’de olmayan “will” ve “going to” farkları ilk öğrenirken biraz zor gelse de, örneklerle birlikte iyi çalışıldığında gayet basit olduğu görülecektir.

USE 1 “Will” to offer something
(Bir şey teklif etmek için)

“Will” often suggests that a speaker will do something voluntarily. A voluntary action is one the speaker offers to do for someone else.

(Bir iş gönüllü olarak yapılacağı zaman “will” kullanılır. Bu gönüllü eylem konuşan kişinin karşısındakine yaptığı tekliftir.)


EXAMPLES:

A: I’m really hungry.  (Gerçekten çok açım.)
B: I’ll make some sandwiches.  (Sana biraz sandviç hazırlıyım.)

A: I’m so tired. I’m about to fall asleep.  (Çok yorgunum. Uyumak üzereyim.)
B: I’ll get you some coffee.  (Sana biraz kahve getiriyim.)

A: The phone is ringing.  (Telefon çalıyor.)
B: I’ll get it.  (Ben bakarım.)

USE 2 “Will” to Express a Promise
(Söz vermek için)

“Will” is usually used in promises.

(“Will” genellikle söz verirken kullanılır.)

EXAMPLES

I will call you when I arrive. (Varınca seni ararım.)

I promise I will not tell him about the surprise party. (Söz veriyorum. Ona sürpriz parti hakkında hiçbirşey söylemeyeceğim.)

USE 3 “Be going to” to Express a Plan
(Bir plandan bahsederken)

“Be going to” expresses that something is a plan.

(“Be going to” yapılacak bir eylemin planlanmış olduğunu belirtir.

EXAMPLES

He is going to spend his vacation in Hawaii. (Tatilini Hawai’de geçirecek.)

We are going to meet each other tonight at 6:00 PM. (Bu gece 6’da buluşacağız.)

A: Who is going to make John’s birthday cake. (John’un doğumgünü pastasını kim yapacak?)
B: Sue is going to make John’s birthday cake. (John’un doğungünü pastasını Sue yapacak.)

USE 4 “Will” or “Be Going to” to Express a Prediction
(Tahmin yürütürken “Will” veya “Be going to”)

Both “will” and “be going to” can express the idea of a general prediction about the future.

“Will” ve “Going to” gelecekle ilgili tahminde bulunurken kullanılabilir. Eğen tahminimizi destekleyen çok açık bir kanıt varsa “be going to” kalıbı tercih edilir. Bazı durumlarda her iki kullanım da tercih edilebilir.

EXAMPLES:

The year 2023 will be a very interesting year. (2023 yılı çok ilginç bir yıl olacak.)
The year 2023 is going to be a very interesting year. (2023 yılı çok ilginç bir yıl olacak.)

It will rain. (Yağmur yağacak)
It’s going to rain. (Yağmur yağacak. Eğer gökyüzü kara bulutlarla doluysa ve yağmurun yağacağı kesin gibiyse “going to” kullanılır.)

DİKKAT!

Özellikle “Will” Future Tense’li cümleleri Türkçeye farklı şekillerde çevrilebilir. Aşağıdaki örneklere bakınız.

I will go to Italy. (İtalya’ya gideceğim.)
I will bring you an asprin. (Sana bir asprin getiriyim.)
I will open the door. (Kapıya ben bakarım.)

Kısaca söyleyen kişinin niyetine bağlı olarak anlam da değişir.

         TIME EXPRESSIONS IN FUTURE TENSE

Time expressions zaman belirten ifadelerdir ve İngilizce’de her zaman için farklı ifadeler kullanılır. Özellikle sınavlarda cümlenin hangi tense olduğunu anlamak için time expression’ların bilinmesi çok önemlidir.

next year/month/week/saturday (gelecek yıl/ay/hafta/Cumartesi)

  soon (yakında)
  in two minutes/four weeks (iki dakika/dört hafta içinde)
